Review of The Conversation (1974) by Colm M — 14 Mar 2011
Finally got around to seeing this one after many searches. Brilliant character study of a paranoid, lonely, control freak P.I. Francis Ford Coppola obviously does not like snoops so I believe this is his perfect fantasy on this seedy profession.
The movie gradually builds to a gratifyingly revealing conclusion, bringing the pathetic life of Harry Caul to its ultimate self-realisation. The movie asks; is the role of a snoop blameless? Is he outside the karmic circle? Apprently not!!!! I'd like to watch this one a few times.
It may well be a five star movie. Lets see how long it sticks in my mind. I know a guy through a friend who actually does this for a living. I'd love to suggest he watch this movie. My guess is he would hate it.
Suspense at it finest. Hackman in possibly his best role.
