Review of The Conversation (1974) by Marcus W — 24 Feb 2012
This is a tricky one. You have Hackman on form as the obsessed "bugger", while the (giallo-like) plot gradually unfolds around him. And yet the film is very muted and gentle. There's no tension at all, and having Hackman so introverted isolates the viewer.
It's a film to be respected, but it didn't do it for me.
