Review of The Conversation (1974) by Stephen E — 06 Sep 2012
A slow moving paranoia film from Coppola at his peak. As the film revolves around understanding the recording of a conversation between two people there are lots of moments of characters listening and scenes of complete silence.
This can make the whole thing appear dull and boring but in fact everything on screen has significance and the fun is try to work it all out before Hackman gets there. It's a great performance by him and he would homage the character over 20 years later in 'Enemy of the State'.
A masterful bit of film-making and one worthy of repeated viewing.
