Review of The Conversation (1974) by Sam P — 05 Mar 2014
This movie has many things to admire, there are two big figures in filmmaking involved with this movie, Francis ford Coppola(director, writer, producer) and Walter Murch (one of the most influential editor in new era of cinema)',the story is talking about something that still new, the privacy. When I was watching it last night I was wondering what if we re-edit the movie and add an ADR for NSA. The feeling of insecurity and invading privacy of each other's life was one if the issues even on that time. Interesting part is when you think about NSA's agents and how their job effects on their personal life.
The solo piano add to the loneliness of the main character.
The character progression and location progression are well established.
Coppola add interesting moments to tell us about the main character and his mentality, even jamming with the gramophone. Editing, I enjoyed when we go back in time with sound and we know more about two people walking. SoundDesign , you can hear everything, even small vibration of radio, you are as sensitive as the main character to the sound. Overall, enjoyable movie with nice plots.
