Review of The Conversation (1974) by Bob W — 21 Feb 2009
A forgotten gem, overshadowed by Coppola's other great movie in '74, Godfather Pt. 2. It is very different from that movie and purposely plodding like the job of the main character. It is interesting to see early Cindy Williams and Harrison Ford who also appeared in Lucas' American Graffitti around the same time.
The paranoia of the character makes you wonder all during the movie if he is just imagining things ala Beautiful Mind or if it's real. Perfectly timed for Watergate. Also, a profound statement on the deep isolation communication technology produces while promising the opposite.
The main character yearns for real connection while straining for ultimate privatization, and ends up lonely and more paranoid.
