Review of The Conversation (1974) by Chase R — 04 Jun 2010
An absolutely terrific flick, which has a slow buring intensity that seeps through every scene...
Coppola exercises real restraint in his direction and the use of sound is so intelligent. Up front, Hackman'sHarry Caul is a complex and frustrating character. Openly paranoid and closed off to everyone, he is so intriguing to follow around. This is down to Hackman's presence, the guy is awesome and a million miles away from Popeye Doyle.
