Review of The Constant Gardener (2005) by Alex M — 29 Aug 2009
On paper, this film should have been great. However, I found it difficult to enjoy The Constant Gardener.
There were certain aspects that were excellent, such as the cinematography, lighting, location and camera angles. The performance from Ralph Fiennes was, as always, powerful. This performance is without a doubt the best thing about the film.
However, I couldn't help but feel I was waiting for something exciting to happen that never quite did. This was possibly affected by the fact I found the story quite confusing and hard to follow. At the end of the film I wasn't left with the sense of satisfaction I think the director intended. With all that said, I think it is likely I will enjoy the film more the second time round.
