Review of The Constant Gardener (2005) by David M — 10 Sep 2009
If this movie accomplishes anything, it is that you realize just how Africa got the way it is. The most jarring and heartfelt moments in this film are finding out about just how bad it really is, and in ways that you never imagined.
The movie focuses a lot on guilt, and you definitely feel that way watching it. Ralph Fiennes is always a pleasure to watch, and he performs heartbreak muddled with anger and revenge in a pitch perfect fashion.
Rachel Weisz is believably passionate in her role, and Danny Huston is a sleazebag. All in all a well executed endeavor on love, revenge, guilt, and global politics wrapped up and presented in an engaging thriller.
