Review of The Constant Gardener (2005) by Adesh P — 30 Aug 2011
I am not very fond of the films that are shot and cut like a music video especially when they donâ(TM)t add anything to the film thematically. I donâ(TM)t really agree with this kind of filmmaking that glosses and glorifies everything and that too in all seriousness.
I also found it too emotional and too impersonal at the same time with too much music. I donâ(TM)t find any honesty or sincerity in the story and the way itâ(TM)s told. There are too many conventions in the way itâ(TM)s shot, edited, written and directed.
These are the same conventions that were invented and then over abused by Hollywood and are still being recycled. These are the same reasons for which The City of Gods didn't excite me much. I donâ(TM)t see why all of this couldnâ(TM)t be avoided.
The only source of honesty here is in the acting department but we all know itâ(TM)s not really an actorâ(TM)s medium, though they do make it easy to not get completely put off by the creative choices made here.
