Review of The Constant Gardener (2005) by Kris H — 02 Jan 2012
The horrid story about poverty in Africa and how a drug company experiments their drug that is supposed to help civilians with their disease when it really kills them. The company, of course, covers this up.
An academy award winning performance from Rachel Weisz as Tessa Quayle who is an activist desperate to help the civilians in Africa and desperate to uncover the truth to this drug company. Her crusade ultimately leads to her death, and her husband, academy award nominee Ralph Fiennes, now digs deep into his wife's research to find what happened to her.
The film used a lot of personification. Justin Quayle (Fiennes) loves gardening and finds comfort in growing plants to help life. Tessa loves the people in Kenya and finds comfort in helping these people grow.
The plants and the people both, unfortunately, wither and die. The movie is very suspenseful and powerfully directed.
