Review of The Conspirator (2011) by Mark Q — 06 Jul 2011
A welcome break from the summer's blockbusters, this is a smart, well-written & firmly directed (by the great Robert Redford) drama, which focuses on the case of Mary Surratt, supposed conspirator in Abraham Lincoln's assassination.
With the smell of corruption & prejudice throughout (particularly from Kline's character), the heart of the film rests firmly on the shoulders of Wright-Penn & MacAvoy, who are both outstanding!!! The supporting cast fluctuates with Bledel & Long the disappointments, but the script & sharp pace give this film the punch it needs!!!
