Review of The Conspirator (2011) by Benjamin K — 01 Oct 2011
Robert Redford has delivered some off the cuff biopic films that may have not done well in theaters but continue to impress long after leaving theaters. Take Quiz Show for instance. Underestimated performances but compelling acting make these types of movies stand out.
This movie was no different. McAvoy is probably one of the most underestimated actors in films today and still not seen in many big named movies. He delivered a great performance in this movie as a young lawyer defending an enemy of the state after Lincoln's assassination.
The costars merely held up the script around him and Wright, who as well deserves a nod for a tough role. Wilkinson and Kline as always shined as did Wood, but Justin Long just does not fit into biopic roles.
I believe it was too early to see him cast in a movie like this due to his comedic performances in recent past. Still the movie worked and I was shocked to see the ending, not knowing much about the story.
In all a pretty good movie, although not as powerful as other Civil War era films.
