Review of The Conspirator (2011) by Jacob Z — 21 Nov 2011
The Conspirator told the story of the people who conspired for the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. James McAvoy played Frederick Aiken, a lawyer who participated in the Civil War and who was given the most dificult task, to defend Mary Surratt (Robin Wright), accused of conspiring against Lincoln.
She was included in this group simply because Booth (Lincoln's assassin) stayed at her board house and was friend of her son, who disappeared after the tragedy. The story and the movie worked well and that was kudos to Mr Robert Redford who did an impacable directing and ofcourse the actors and their roles, and the majority of them were very good such as James McAvoy, the most interesting and the most suitable for the main role.
Although it presented some clichés seen in similar films "The Conspirator" is worth a view, it is a historical piece of work, relevant in portraying how vengeance and injustice prevails over justice.
