Review of The Conspirator (2011) by Geoff C — 21 May 2012
In some ways this film missed the mark. There was some generic sounding dramatic music in scenes where it didn't belong. Robin Wright steals the show when it comes to performance. Nobody else on screen was too remarkable, though the main character did admirably portray a man of strong moral conviction.
And there were some scenes that I felt could have been shot better. Also, some of the action on screen felt like it was meant for the stage, rather than the movies. Film, in cases like this, is supposed to have the illusion of authenticity, especially when the film is based on a true story.
This had no such illusion. However, the film was very compelling, and was mostly able to hold my attention with a story which was obviously told to draw historical parallels current events.
