Review of The Conspiracy (2012) by Nathan M — 19 Jan 2015
If you're a fan of thrillers and horror films, especially ones about mysterious cults, than you'll probably find enough to enjoy about this one. The Conspiracy is a found footage/mockumentary style horror film that is interesting enough, but doesn't delve into the obsessive nature of conspiracy theorists enough. Or I should say, it doesn't delve into them in a way that is satisfying or thought provoking. You get your typical conspiracy theorist character, your typical skeptic, and than your new believer character all mixed in here. There's nothing new about any of it.
But that doesn't mean that it's altogether uninteresting. I'm a huge fan of horror movies about cults, and so I was pretty engaged throughout the film. Watching these characters delve deeper into the mystery of the Tarsus Club, and feeling the inevitable tragedy that is coming is pretty effective throughout. And if you're still interested after reading the plot description and reading this far into the review, than go ahead and watch it.
There's really not a lot to talk about with this film, but it's an effective thriller that's perfect for late night viewing on Netflix.
