Review of The Conjuring (2013) by Simon H — 15 Sep 2014
The phrase "true story" is really thrown around anywhere in Hollywood isn't it. I resent the way this "True story" discusses Salem witches as anything other than victims to an aggressive patriarchy.
People in Africa are still persecuted/tortured/murdered for alleged witchcraft, it's violent and horrifying. Not something I'd like to see fabricated into something which legitimises such barbaric practices.
There's also way too much Christianity in this film for my liking. Other than that it was an okay film, I doubt it will rub many others the wrong way as it did me.
