Review of The Conjuring (2013) by Theo M — 08 Oct 2014
Mix the Exorcist with Poltergeist, add a little Amityville Horror, Child's Play, and The Birds and there you have The Conjuring. The plot goes exactly the way you expect it to be; it's just your average horror scenario: dead pet, house posessed, family members posessed, exorcist and all is well again.
Most shock effects come from sudden loud film music and a few sudden creepy shots. The only more or less original special effect was the sheet blown away and turning into a spooky shape. You really need to believe in all the supernatural mumbo jumbo to have this movie scare the shit out of you.
