Frightening, but not exciting as the first one. Using the same formula definitely destroyed some of its tensions when it comes to developing the scares. Still, "The Conjuring 2" manages to pull off some new of tricks of its sleeves to surprise and scare its audiences with an utmost roar.
It's atmospheric, engaging, and professionally well done. You can tell everyone who worked on this put their heart into it. Good vs. Evil. Just the way I like it.
