This would have looked extremely corny on paper but the fantastic cast and crew make this a very entertaining movie . James Wan really understands this genre and respects his audience . He doesn't go after cheap thrills or fake scares. Every scare is earned and the film doesn't fool you into screaming . This makes you really trust the movie that when ultimately s*** goes down , you are genuinely nervous and not second guessing it . A delightful surprise was the amount of humor that was seamlessly woven into the story . It really worked and didn't come across as tacked on to relieve stress .

This is a petite , engaging horror . It doesn't get under your skin or unsettle you for weeks .
