Review of The Conjuring 2 (2016) by Kyle L — 26 Jul 2016

The Conjuring 2 is a smart and scary plus intense sequel that delivers more thrills, tension, scares and suspense than its 2013 predecessor. The Conjuring 2 continues the story of Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren as they help a family in Enfield, England when they started getting terrorized by a spirit that something Ed and Lorraine Warren has never encountered in their past investigations.

When I heard that a sequel to The Conjuring was announced I was seriously surprised also that James Wan will return to the director's chair after he directed the blockbuster Furious 7 to my surprise he did it again.

I remember when I watched this movie the first time it nearly wet my pants and I was so terrified from watching this film even my sister and the entire audience were scared and screaming out of their wits then the second time I watched it on my own since I didn't want to watch the boring Independence Day sequel this film still nearly made me pee on my own pants because this film seriously frightened me from start to finish.

One of the things I like about The Conjuring 2 is that the film is just as well paced as its predecessor and James Wan used some of his own tricks from the previous film while combining new ones as well, I was surprised that James Wan handled everything well just like how he handled things in the first movie and the result is a successful Horror film that still scared audiences once again.

James Wan seriously knows how to handle a good scary movie without over using worn out scares that most Horror movies are using now a days and without adding too much blood instead James Wan relies heavily on scaring people in the trickiest ways that are too much or extreme to handle.

I love how James Wan was able to keep the flow of the pace on the proper tracks he doesn't go off the rails he just keeps going until he reached his destination like a subway train. One of the things I love about The Conjuring 2 is that Wan was able to give the characters more depth and emotion than the last time and the chemistry of Ed and Lorraine Warren along with the Hodgson family is seriously well done.

Because you get to care for the characters as the film goes on plus Ed and Lorraine Warren have never been sweeter or lovelier than ever in a Horror movie. The other things I like about The Conjuring 2 is that the film's scares are done in a well effective and frightening way(the creepy opening scene, the super scary sequence with The Crooked Man, scenes with the scary Nun and the old man ghost and the intense, suspenceful and frightening finale that will terrify you even further) other highlights is the cinematography by Don Burgess which creates a spooky atmosphere and the soundtrack of longtime James Wan collaborator Joseph Bishara who's music still scares the hell out of me and the song he composed for this film is more terrifying than what he composed for the previous film.

Now the acting is impressive once again Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson deliver stellar performances as Ed and Lorraine Warren and their chemistry is what I adore the most in both films. The rest of the cast did a very good job as well as the two leads.

Director James Wan did an outstanding job with his work on this movie and if not he actually did a better job to be honest than what he did in his past films and the same can be said to the three screenwriters Chad Hayes, Carey Hayes and Leslie Johnson.

Its quite sad that James Wan is now moving on to work on films that he always dreams of making, like the big budget blockbuster film Furious 7 and the upcoming Aquaman but I hope to see his work in the future of Horror.

Overall The Conjuring 2 is a well effective and outstanding sequel from start to finish and it will terrify you just as what the first film did. This movie gets an 11/10.
