With cinematography that beautifully captures the England setting, energetic direction, nightmarish chills and a heartfelt emphasis on family togetherness, The Conjuring 2 retains all the ingredients that made the original so scary and fun -- and in some respects improves on the first with increased emotional complexity and stronger chemistry between its leads.
