Review of The Conjuring 2 (2016) by Melanie P — 05 Nov 2017

As much as I liked the first film, I have to say this one was much more enjoyable. Unlike the first installment, "The Conjuring 2" has much more action and jump scares. There are not as many resting points between the intended scares, which I enjoyed very much.

This movie had me feeling on edge the entire time, both because of the music used and the timing of appearances by the spirits. I was frustrated with some parts, such as when Lorraine did not tell Ed about her vision, but overall I think it added to the uneasy feeling that is felt throughout the film.

The use of dark coloring for the lighting was a great addition as it made chilling scenes a little more creepy. There are some instances within the film that seem a little too unrealistic, as when the tapes fell and happened to cross over one another, giving Ed the idea that they will form a message if he played them at the same time, and when Valak gave Lorraine it's name when she asked.

I'm still unsure of why the demon would give Lorraine the thing that would allow her to control it and I believe this could have been explained, even if it was just one line or two. Other than that, I think this was a very great film that provides the horror audiences are looking for these days.

While I would not consider this to be a classic, I do believe it has the potential to become one in the future.
