Review of The Conformist (1971) by Arthur L — 16 Mar 2008
Film noir at it's best from Bertolucci, amazing scenes and cinematography. I'm glad the cinema I went to (The BFI) provided a handout as although at face value the plot is quite simple all the other stuff going on (libral v dictatorship, imprisonment, cowardice, eroticism, a good splattering of Freud.
....and much more) confused me quite a bit, but maybe I'm just a bit slow on the uptake. You just can't like the main character.
