Review of The Condemned (2007) by Kunal S — 13 Dec 2011
I set my standards pretty low going in since it was a WWE film (The Marine was pretty bad). However, I was actually finding myself entertained by the movie. Yeah, it rehashes The Running Man-concept (and supposedly Battle Royale's concept too but I've never seen that).
And, yes, it didn't really try to break any of your typical action cliches. Nevertheless, it was a fun, mindless, action-packed 90-minutes. Stone Cold plays basically the only character I could ever see him play in a movie - a tough, redneck badass, which of course means his performance was good.
The production values were all pretty high overall. Still, the movie is ridiculously contradictory when the moral at the end of the movie basically condemns peoples lust for watching violence when the whole fanbase of this movie ARE a bunch of people watching this movie solely for its violence.
Pretty dumb message. ...But then again it IS a dumb movie. Fun...but dumb.
