Review of The Condemned (2007) by Marylou C — 25 Aug 2008
I think I'll give this film one full star simply for Stone Cold Steve Wonder Woman. It's poorly written with terrible performances all-around, terrible dialogue and some half-decent action (most of which involves Mr.
Jones) mixed into a piss-poor attempt to recreate and market off of the success of a much greater film, Battle Royale. The "plot" is idiotic with a pitiful attempt to make some comment on society, however the people it's mocking just so happen to be the film's target audience (WHAT A TWIST!).
Whoever played the little angry Japanese guy I will award for a pretty believable performance, but simply because frustrated, loud and quick Japanese can make Mother Theresa sound like a psychopath. The cinematography was half-way decent for a fillm produced by the WWE, with nice scenery and CGI special effects (the few there were), but it's obviously not enough to redeem this sad attempt to make an American, adult Battle Royale.
I'd also like to point out that every man minus Mr. Cold tries to rape the women. I'd have liked to see some more originality in the deaths, though... All-in-all, a good guy flick, but there's so much better out there.
