"The Company You Keep" is a smooth political drama that appears to have a simple plot line behind it all. The premise appears to be complicated, though as we discover later on in the story, everything turns out to be much simpler.

The fact that Shia LaBeouf and Susan Sarandon play the main roles also help. Brit Marling here enforces her own image as a side role who is innocent in a drama about political power play (she also played in "Arbitrage" alongside Richard Gere previously).
