Review of The Company of Wolves (1984) by Josh S — 21 Apr 2006
This film alone allows me to tip my hat to a good friend of mine, as he states that "computer imagery tends to muck up films more so than benefit them, when so many of these films rely on post-production to create their ideal film." I'm paraphrasing, naturally -- I think he said simply, "I hate CG.".
At any rate, this is a film of a bygone era -- the backgrounds are full of props, instead of pixels; there are painted backdrops and immensely wonderful stages upon which REAL elements are utilized, as opposed to a green screen. A highly surreal film, surpassing the bizarre qualities of such older fantasy films as the Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. Yeah, you liked those films, didn't you? Sure ya did -- try the Company of Wolves, as well.
