Review of The Comedy (2012) by David R — 01 Nov 2012
Heidecker's body of work in comedy is impressive. But what many casual fans of Tim don't know is that Tim's roots are in community theater from his days growing up in Allentown, PA. In 'The Comedy' Tim portrays an aimless trust-fund hipster from Brooklyn who wallows through life as an overgrown-boy, lashing out at the world while refusing to take responsibility for himself.
Tim's performance is brilliantly natural, and the first time Tim reveals himself free from his usual sarcastic persona. The viewer is expected to some extent to put the story together vs the typical narration Hollywood directors use to spoon-feed viewers.
Certain fans will be disappointed if they are expecting a style similar to the wacky 'Tim&Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!' 'The Comedy' is dark and often serious, and as long as you can accept Tim as a serious actor, then you'll be able to appreciate his comedic side even more by seeing how great he is in this movie.
