Review of The Color Purple (1985) by Kendall I — 14 Mar 2011
Brilliant. Just brilliant. This movie tells an emotional story of African-American sisterhood among the stereotypes of the early 1900's. The acting is brilliant (Oscar-worthy)! The story is so surprising and somewhat strange at times, which lets the weird side of me rest in peace.
Another thing about this is that it packs a huge emotional punch of sadness, happiness, and anger all in one masterful performance. Whoopi is one of my favorite actresses ever and I have to say that she's probably done her best in this film, especially for this being her first movie.
Spielberg, you haven't let me down here as you did with E.T.! Overall,an epic drama.
