Review of The Color of Money (1986) by David K — 07 Sep 2008
Another quality film from Martin Scorcese. The beauty of it? You don't have to see "The Hustler" to enjoy it. It's a stand alone sequel that has visions of being better than its predecessor, and sometimes it succeeds.
All of the characters are motivated by money; trying to earn the most, not so much trying to be the best. The change these characters go through is phenomenal and "The Color of Money" is ultimately a solid emotional journey.
But some of the films brilliance is once again in the camera work which has Scorsese's signature all over it. Still, I can't help but feel that it was toned down in order for the film to be more "marketable.
" In either case, "The Color of Money" is a very solid movie that doesn't need to be "flashy" to be good, but the "flash" that it does have adds to the overall experience.
With great performances and camera work, go ahead and rack up another great movie from one of America's best filmmakers.
