Review of The Color of Money (1986) by Logan T — 19 Jun 2010
"Money won is twice as sweet as money earned".
Martin Scorsese directs this movie in which most people, including myself, see as a sequel to the The Hustler. Paul Newman revises his role as fast Eddie Felson a washed up, old school, whiskey drinking pool shark. Newman gives an excellent performance in this film. Also starring Tom Cruise as Vincent whom fast Eddie takes under his wing as his protege. Vincent is a cocky ego driven pool player who, for one reason or another, reminds Eddie of himself when he was younger. Eddie, Vincent, and Vincent's girlfriend take to the road to train in various pool halls on their way to a 9 ball tournament in Atlantic City.
Excellent cinematography, great acting with an exception for Tom Cruise who I thought was awful, and a great story as well.
