Review of The Colony (2013) by Tim W — 11 Jun 2018
Look, you can't have it all ways . It's no good moaning that dystopian horror is a done to death genre, then watch one and say it's adding nothing new. Personally, I Iove dystopian horror and sit down to watch them knowing pretty much what I'll get.
What's wrong with that? So, judging this as a dystopian horror on it's own merits it's not bad. Not a classic, and the talented cast are somewhat wasted, but worth a watch. Clearly it draws on other influences, John Carpenter's The Thing' being the obvious one, but at least it's standing on the shoulders of giants.
So, in future, if it's a 'done to death' genre steer clear of it. After all, I don't moan about how much I don't like Barbie films. I mean, in what has to be a done to death genre.
