Review of The Collection (2012) by Brian R — 31 Mar 2013
More budget seems to be the kiss of death for strong indie-type filmmakers. With The Collection, writer/director Dunstan seems to have been too overwhelmed with a larger scale set piece to give much care to the madman he meticulously created in The Collector.
What we have left are some interesting shots, what looks like a set from a Marilyn Manson video, some decent gore and Josh Stewart playing John McClane. All of the cleverness of the original is skipped in this mediocre sequel.
Gone are the brilliant booby traps and intense cat and mouse. You pretty much know who is going to live or die from the beginning, so there is never any real sense of danger.
