I knew going into this film that at the very best it would be average. And it was. I was just curious as to what Mr Cavil could offer up for us to see before he becomes the planet Krypton's most famous son next year.

The Cold Light Of Day is pretty standard fair. The story itself could have been written with crayons, but it is the direction that really lets it down. Mabrouk El Mechri (nope, me neither!) is so ham fisted with the camera work you sometimes feel like shouting at the screen. Early on in the film there are a lot of night scenes, during these scenes the screen is pretty much pitch black, which provides no favours if you are trying to follow the film. Another annoyance is that a lot of the action is filmed to close so that the actors in the scenes suffer badly from cinema blur, slow down and pull back please Mr El Mechri....

Sigorney Weaver is so bad in this she actually comes out on top. She plays the standard bad guy (not really a spoiler if you have seen the trailer), but lifts it to a different level with some of the hammiest 'bad guy' acting I have seen ever.

So what of Mr Cavil? Well he is OK, AND he has a body that will definitely look good in blue and red spandex.

The Cold Light Of Day is a forgettable thriller that makes great use of the city of Madrid. If you do go to see it, sit back and switch off your brain, you might enjoy it a little more than you actually should....
