Review of The Cold Light of Day (2012) by Thomas W — 08 Sep 2012
Hours after watching it, I still cannot come up with a single reason as to why The Cold Light of Day exists. The screenwriters, director and cast must have all wanted to visit Spain and the film is pretty-much nothing more than an extended chase sequence.
Henry Cavill of "The Tudors" and the upcoming Superman reboot is Will Shaw, an on-the-go, stressed businessman who reluctantly meets up with his family on a yacht for a Spanish sailing tour (Bruce Willis [Pulp Fiction, Die Hard, The Sixth Sense] and Caroline Goodall [White Squall, Schindler's List, Cliffhaanger] play his parents) but his constant cell-phone distractions -- which sound important -- keep him from enjoying his time with his family.
When his father has had enough of the interruptions, he chucks the phone into the sea which prompts Will to make a hurried dash into the nearby town ... only to discover his family vanished upon his return! It turns out Sigourney Weaver (Alien, Galaxy Quest, Working Girl) and the intelligence organization she works for wants a briefcase (!) VERY badly (because .
..?) and will do a lot of driving and shooting (separately and together!) to get it. She either wants what is inside the briefcase or she just likes chasing and shooting at Will because it goes on-and-on-and-on .
.. and on. Will meets a few people with guns who can shoot back and they run together a bit but sometimes they all get fooled by Weaver as she is at times one-step ahead of them! There is NO character development or story arcs .
.. Sigourney Weaver is going to chase people with a gun (spoiler alert!). Also ... this might be interesting trivia: I don't think any of the characters firing guns in The Cold Light of Day have ever done so before.
I don't know what to make of this ... other than nothing at all.
