Review of The Cold Light of Day (2012) by Jamie M — 05 May 2013
I can't quite explain what happens in this film, the script is so poorly written, it must have been hard for Willis, Cavill and Weaver not to laugh when reading it. The directing is amateurish, and the action is sloppy. The plot is quite ridiculous, another Harrison Ford-esque "I want my family back" flick.
It seems like the big names 'starring' in this film weren't half as interested as I was watching it... And that doesn't bode well at all, because I got bored after 10 minutes. I like Cavill, he impressed me in Hirst's tv drama The Tudors, but it seems his big-screen experiences are lacking at the moment, Immortals bombed, and disappointed, as did this mess. But with hit writer Goyer, and acclaimed filmmakers Nolan and Snyder at the helm, one can only imagine we'll finally see the best of Cavill.
Weaver and Willis clearly had the retirement fund in mind when signing on to this shambolic spy thriller. I won't even bother giving you a synopsis or even a well written account of what happens...
Because in all honesty, it's just not worth it. Most films try and sway audiences into sympathetic mode for our heroes, but it doesn't even do that. Quite frankly, I couldn't care less about any of the characters (my family this, my family that), two-dimensional and some are just pointless, a lame supporting cast too, nobodies just getting their 5 minutes. No surprises, no thrills, no point. I'd be surprised if it made back the $20,000,000 it cost to make. Probably not.
In conclusion, 89 minutes of my life, that I have, quite literally... Wasted.
