Review of The Cloverfield Paradox (2018) by Sean C — 05 Feb 2018
"Have you tried turning it on and off again?" is what I desperately wanted someone to ask with respect to all the difficulties the crew was having with their thingamahooey.
The film is a PG-13 variation of Event Horizon that is given the faintest of Cloverfield veneers because it knew it couldn't make it under its own branding. Unlike Event Horizon which simply went the route of science opened up the door to the supernatural, The Cloverfield Paradox tries to do whatever the heck it wants and then shrug and say, "that crazy science stuff going down again." There's some competent film work going on, saddled with some mundane storytelling.
