Review of The Cloverfield Paradox (2018) by Ned S — 05 Feb 2018
As a huge fan of the Cloverfield movies, I loved this. I was so unbelievably excited about this dropping after the Super Bowl, I was giggling like an idiot. With 10 Cloverfield Lane I was blown away and excited with their decision to drop the trailer just 2 months before the release. Now they've gone and one upped themselves by dropping Cloverfield 3 merely hours after a 30 second teaser. Amazing. They're changing the game when it comes to how studios develop, advertise, and release their films. Hollywood take note!
A lot of people are confused by the plot in this film, which is completely understandable. Some of the plot elements are absolutey nuts and open pandoras box, so to speak.
This isn't going to be well liked by the masses, I'll admit. I'm already seeing tons of people slamming it for being confusing.
J.J. and crew have committed to developing this universe and expanding it for the fans, which is one reason I suspect they went the route of releasing it on Netflix instead of wide theater release. That said, I personally felt, apart from the Cloverfield name attached to it, this was a very decent sci-fi movie, and explored some really interesting ideas I haven't seen done much in sci-fi.
