Review of The Cloverfield Paradox (2018) by Brendan N — 05 Feb 2018
I enjoyed Cloverfield Lane and thought it was an intriguing twist compared to the very first Cloverfield found footage film. This film however is a mixed bag and you can see why the studio pushed this film to the likes of Netflix, it would have flopped at the box office.
The film isn't the worst but it has massive problems with the story it wants to tell, it just feels very safe. The last film left us in an interesting place and this adds new information to the mythology, but it never becomes a film that will stand the test of time.
Each character feels underdeveloped and I'm surprised J.J let this film slide within the Cloverfield world without a coherent and thrilling storyline. I think this is the weakest chapter in the series and won't please us fans, just a shame they didn't make a scary film or an interesting sci fi film.
Just a big missed opportunity here. 05-02-2018.
