It was actually quite well done, this is another film that critics are panning as terrible and non fands of the franchise or those who have limited experience with the ARG or Cloverfield itself really wont understand.
This move WAS needed, its an all important tie in, the thing is many who do not understand the lore or followed the lore and materials surrounding the ARG that exist within the franchise will not understand it.
Essentially its another warcraft, great for the fans, but that is it. I'm ok with fanservice, which is what this was, very much.
