Review of The Cloverfield Paradox (2018) by Bean E — 08 Feb 2018
A great cast with some fairly decent performances, but there is a serious issue of tonal inconsistency (did anyone tell Chris O'Dowd that this wasn't a comedy?.) The plot feels very rote and predictable, with an awful subplot about the people left on earth that doesn't add anything to the film and an incredibly tacked on ending to link the film to the larger Cloverfield mythos.
It feels like a direct to video franchise sequel that you would see in the late 90's, which given the way the movie was released is fitting.
