I reckon you'll find that undercurrent in a lot of critic reviews - because movie critics like to believe they're still important in the world, that they should get to see things before everyone else.
And Cloverfield Paradox (3) was like "BOOM here I am" leaving everyone scrambling to find and see. So I'd take the critical reviews with a grain of "sore loser" salt in the wound.
It's like Event Horizon meets Red Dwarf, freakish and funny at the same time.
