I thought it was great!
Not a huge Cloverfield fan so wasn't expecting much but I think it succeeds as a stand-alone (as long as you at least know the gist of first movie). A good mix of suspense, sci fi (a la alien) and a spatter or comedy.
I don't understand why people have complained about it.
I'll definitely watch it again. Good stuff!
Reminded me of watching Cabin in the Woods. Great homages and not sure what to expect but very satisfied and entertained.
