Review of The Class (2008) by Kiki F — 06 Mar 2009
It's a solid film about the day-to-day and week-to-week grind of the life of a French schoolteacher. The film pretty much spans one class term, and for the most part, is very authentic. Granted I've never been to France, but I think this film shows us that they run into the same problems over there as we do here in America.
The performances are nice and I started to really like the students as characters, however, I was left sort of empty by the end. I think some of the students were more complex than the director realized, and I felt as the audience wanting to understand them better.
So in the end, I give props to the authentic feel of the film, but I think it lacked some real drama.
