Review of The Class (2008) by Ronald S — 14 Mar 2009
A very charming slice of life that shows the inner workings of a French classroom over the course of a year. It's very engaging and the documentary style filmmaking really pulled me in. The acting makes it all the more documentary like seeing that all the characters feel real and not fabricated. When you get to the end, you really feel as if you took a journey and it made me feel some accomplishment to a degree, as if I helped them along. What I really enjoyed is that we never see anything outside of the school. We receive all we are supposed to know in the confines of the building and it works brilliantly.
Now, if only every character didn't talk over the other in some of the scenes, making it hard to follow who was saying what and knowing as an audience member not everything was being translated, then it would have been a perfect film.
