Review of The Class (2008) by Georgios L — 27 Mar 2009
This is one of those films that prefers to observe and not give answers. The most dramatic thing that happens in the entire film is the expulsion of a pupil. There is no music to add gravity to significant moments, no camera lingerings on faces, there is nothing to guide you towards a certain way of thinking.
Everything is open: is it ok for a teacher to be friends with students? Is it ok for a student to be violent and to talk back to a teacher? Can expulsion help anyone? Should students know about their teacher's personal lives? It reminded me of another very good film with a similar hand-made feelng about it: "Half Nelson".
Thoroughly reccomended.
