Review of The Class (2008) by Brian P — 06 Sep 2009
Until it's last act, Entre les Murs is almost a five star film. Although the film mostly takes place in a classroom, the film overflows with vitality from its teacher and students, and the dynamics of the interactions is arresting material.
The last act somewhat imposes the inevitable conflict with a student, and the film I feel mistakingly doesn't probe its teacher nearly enough. It's clear he screws up, yet the film glosses over it and moves on.
I don't mind a cynically French ending, which this movie debatably has, but it doesn't earn it.
