Review of The Class (2008) by Irma M — 07 Jan 2010
Finally a movie about a teacher that doesn't involve changing the attitudes and minds of children and helping them out of proverty. Despite the topic being unoriginal this managed to be very original by actually focusing on the teacher and setting the movie on only one environment.
There were some topics that were lost in translation due to the cultural differences but the effect is still the same. The film is more of a documentary experiance then a movie. The audience is just there to observe without knowing or able to predict the outcome of anything.
The one thing that sets this apart from more films of the this nature is that we get points of views from the teachers rather then the students. This way the audience is able to have a full understanding of the educational system, both its flaws and pluses.
The story unfolds slowly, at times too slowly. However, this is one of the few films that informs rather than to preach and features a teacher who is as fallible as the students.
