Review of The Class (2008) by Gerard D — 03 Mar 2010
This could have made been made as a documentary and I would not have seen any difference. It's a far cry from the typical films about the classroom. It reminded me a lot of the fourth season of "The Wire.
" The teacher is hardly a saint and inspiring but we see someone who tries to do his best in making sure he gets to do his job while making his students care about what he was teaching them. We also get to see how the traditional classroom setup may not be enough to cope with a multicultural society.
Students have more options to learn elsewhere. Cantet's film does not provide any moral lesson but provokes us to ponder how the educational system can go from here.
