Review of The Class (2008) by Bob H — 02 Feb 2010
The Class is a story about a teacher and his middle school students? kids from a poor neighborhood in Paris. The students, many of whose parents are recent immigrants from places like Africa, China, and the Middle East, spend a lot of their class time challenging the culture of the old France (represented by Mousier Marin, the teacher). Don?t expect a retelling of the sentimental tale, ?To Sir, With Love?; rather, expect to witness a clash of cultures that is what it is? something that can be difficult to deal with. Expect confrontational youth versus ?the system?, and expect to be a little repulsed by both.
Pappy Bob?s pedestrian opinion: The Class is well-made, engaging and interesting enough to hold your attention 75% of the time.
